Project 1: Beginnings
Statement
For this project, we were asked to create a 25 second bumper for a real or imaginary film festival. I love Disney movies so I decided to create a bumper for a Disney themed film festival. There was a lot of brainstorming before I could officially settle down on one idea. My initial idea was to incorporate the magic lamp from the movie Aladdin and create a smoke effect as if the text was appearing from the lamp. The problem with this was that I wasn’t able to fully communicate the information in different takes. The next idea I had was to use Mickey Mouse ears as the main graphic and move them along the sequence. I wanted to recreate the act of drawing the ears in an outline and then transforming them into a solid shape, which would then bounce across the screen and introduce the text. The problem with this idea was that the graphics were becoming the focal point of the sequence and not the text itself.
My last and final idea was to somehow recreate the opening Disney theme graphics. I was playing around with the video plugin called Saber that enabled me to create a cool transition outline for the Disney word. I also used a particle effect that allowed me to transition the text into “magic dust,” which goes perfectly with the Disney, magical theme. The background colours of dark blue and pink resemble the colours used in the real-life Disney opening sequence. I also used a whimsical, cursive font for the main text to replicate the Disney font but not use the exact same one, for copyright reasons. The soundtrack is from a free sound website and I thought it fit well with the magical theme.
Overall, I had some trouble coming up with a good idea and I feel like I could have definitely done more with the concept but due to time constraints I wasn’t able to fully commit to it. I am happy with the overall video.

Length/Duration: 20-seconds (content) + 2 seconds of black + a 3-second slate = 25 seconds
Aspect Ratio, Image/Frame Size, Pixel Aspect, Frame Rate etc.: 1920x1080, 24fps
Output: Quicktime movie, colour profile - HD (1-1-1), audio channels - stereo
Approach: I wanted to create a Disney-themed bumper, which was magical and whimsical
Your Project Summary/Description: My idea was to somehow recreate the opening Disney theme graphics and use that to introduce the festival name. I used magical effects that enabled me to fulfill the theme and a soundtrack that best represented the Disney feeling.
Visual Elements: I used a video plugin called Saber that enabled me to get magical effects for the text. I also used a particle effect to create “magical dust.” The colours also resemble the Disney theme.
Software/Hardware/Materials Requirements: Adobe After Effects, Saber video plugin
Technical Research/Anticipated Problem Areas: Trying to create a Disney bumper that wouldn’t copyright the original Disney logo and theme.
